We’re hiring! Looking for a senior WordPress engineer.

Hello good people of WordPress! I’m super excited to announce that we’re hiring here at NerdWallet in San Francisco. If you are (or you know) a senior-level WordPress developer, then read on (or check out the listing).

Why is this exciting?

It’s not often I get this excited about a hiring opportunity, but in this case things are a bit different. Here’s why:

  1. The WordPress team here at NerdWallet has just about the coolest roadmap I’ve come across in my career – seriously. We’re transitioning from a legacy PHP frontend to an all-React frontend driven entirely by the WP API (who wants more React exposure? ✋). We’re working on a project to bring near-real-time performance metrics into the WP admin so our authors can see exactly how their content is performing. And last but not least, we’re working on a proprietary structured data editor that’s going to be 🔥🔥🔥.
  2. Impact. We serve over 15 million page views per month. Additionally, we syndicate our content to a TON of different big-name partners (Forbes, Huffington Post, etc). This means that the things we build get lots and lots of  👀.
  3. Great people. The WordPress team itself is made up of some pretty awesome people. I’m talking significant plugin authorship. Speaking at WordCamp. Contribution to WordPress Core. These are some talented folks (and they’re nice too!). Additionally, the other engineering teams here at NerdWallet have so much talent it still wows me on daily basis even after two years. Job listings so often refer to some vague “opportunity for collaboration” – it’s hard to know what that means. Well let me make it real. No less than 3-4 times each week do I find myself meeting up with experts from other teams to help me level-up on unfamiliar topics that I’m working on. Topics from this week, for example: Redux-Saga, best practices for error logging in Node, setting up performance and code-coverage feedback in CI.
  4. Small team = lots of opportunities. During my time here at NerdWallet I’ve probably worked on more different systems than I had in my previous 10 years of work experience combined. No joke.
  5. Exposure to new tools. Coming from agency work where the policy was often “ship it and forget it,” I’ve really enjoyed the ongoing opportunity to explore industry-standard tooling that budgets and timelines didn’t previously allow for. A few examples: New Relic, Datadog, Sumo Logic, SpeedCurve, Kafka, Amplitude, AWS (ALL the things!), Jenkins, Docker. . .
  6. Perks. Can’t talk about a job position without talking perks. Suffice it to say, they’re great. On par with anything else I’ve come across out there (plus I think our ping pong tables are better than Google’s).
  7. And of course, last but not least: a great cause. Helping folks become financially literate in a world where it’s all too easy to fall into financial trouble – the work feels meaningful and important every day.

Tons more I could say, but these are some of the top highlights that stand out in my mind.

Sounds great, where do I sign up?
